Looking for a psychiatrist?

The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice is the licensing board for all physicians and you can also search their database to locate a psychiatrist. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Minnesota Board of Medical Practice website
  2. Click the circle to the left of “Search by Specialty”
  3. Click the drop-down arrow on the right side of the “Specialty” chooser
  4. Scroll down to “Psychiatry and Neurology (ABMS) / Psychiatry for a general search.
    To search for psychiatrists specializing in specific areas such as addictions, geriatric psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, etc., simply choose the category that shows that specialty after the /.
  5. To focus your search for a psychiatrist in your area, enter the city or zipcode.
  6. Click on the “Search” button to initiate your search.
  7. The lower part of the screen will show a list of psychiatrists below the red statement of how many matches were found. To get information including location and contact information, click on the “→” (arrow) on the left or the “→ Get Profile” chooser on the right to bring up the individual’s professional profile.

PLEASE NOTE: The BMP database provides information about all Minnesota licensed psychiatrists—it does not include availability information. MPS also maintains a list of psychiatrists who can take new patients. Please call 651-407-1873 for more information.
